GRENED - Grenada Education and Development Programme

About Grened

Founded in 1996 by Ambassador Dessima M. Williams, Grenada Education and Development Project (GRENED) is dedicated to partnering with rural communities to use education as a catalyst for individual and communal transformation in Grenada. Communities and GRENED work to promote sustainable economic and social development by producing educated, socially engaged citizens and leaders, with an emphasis on women and youth.

Vision and Mission

GRENED’s vision is a poverty-free Grenada through education. GRENED seeks to provide educational opportunities and resources to the nation, to help reduce poverty, and to nurture economic self determination and social development. Through our holistic approach, we partner with rural communities in using education as a catalyst for individual and communal empowerment, leadership and transformation.

Why Education?

GRENED believes in the enduring worth of education as a means to an end for an empowered and meaningful life. Education cannot be reduced to academics, confined solely to that sphere; nor can academic excellence be devalued and shunned. GRENED sees education as a holistic, all-inclusive, and life long experience. Education encompasses literacy, values, life skills, the ability to live with diversity and to manage life's many challenges for progress. Indeed, for GRENED, a good education is a great democratic force in the life of an individual and in the life of the people.
