Scholarship Programme
The Scholarship Programme supports promising but financially needy students who wish to pursue their academic goals or receive training skills and emerge as leaders. At the moment there are 67 GRENED scholars in secondary school and University. Plans are underway to accept more secondary school students into the programme and expand the number of college scholarships.
Summer Science
GRENED's Summer Science programme is among the oldest and most popular of our many initiatives. The programme fills a significant gap in the education of rural children at a-make-or-break juncture in their lives: successful transition from primary to secondary education; becoming comfortable enough with science and the scientific method to contemplate careers in science.
Career Development
GRENED's career development programme introduces secondary students to the range of careers available in Grenada. As Grenada's job market undergoes the transition into a liberalizing regional and global economy, those seeking professional stability and success must have critical analytic and communication skills, new technical competencies and very balanced self confidence.
Trail Development and Backyard Gardening
GRENED is working with the communities of Morne Longue and Champs Fleurs, creating hiking trails and helping to create new gardens. This project is sponsored by the United Nations Trust Fund on Human Security (UNTFHS), a funding mechanism to support and address issues relating to Human Security.
Mentorship Programme
Students need more than financial support in order to pursue and achieve academic and career goals. They need ongoing love, support and encouragement as they tackle the many challenges along the way. Each student is attached to an adult mentor who assists him or her to excel academically and to develop socially throughout the school career.
GREP
In 2004, GRENED began working with the government of Grenada's Rural Enterprise Project (GREP). Working with the communities of Morne Longue and Champs Fleurs, GRENED personnel have helped local people to form internal management committees to make and implement community decisions regarding what types of projects are needed to improve economic opportunities for the respective communities as a whole.
